Lavender Cake Balls

A couple of weeks ago I found some really cute pastel purple sprinkles on clearance at TJ Maxx. For only $1, I had to have them. What I was going to do with them, I was on a mission to figure out. I wanted to take the pastel purple to another level so I decided to make the inside purple also. Tutorial: I bought regular white vanilla cake that comes in a box and white vanilla icing. I went to hobby lobby and bought a small bottle of violet food coloring and also a small bottle of bright pink. First: prepare the cake mix as directed on the box. I started with about 3 or 4 drops of purple. The purple came out a little on the grey side so I added 1 drop of the bright pink to brighten it up. You may need to add more or less of the purple and pink to get the color you are wanting. Bake the cake according to time on the box. The top came out brown but the inside was perfect purple! I scrapped off the top layer with a tooth pic because I didn’t want the brown to mess up my color, it was a little crunchy anyway. After that, I cut the cake into small squares to let it cool faster. After a little while I transferred it to a large bowl, crumbled it into tiny pieces and let it cool completely. Next step: icing Add the food coloring the same way you did with the cake batter until you get the color you want. If your cake mix came out a little dull then brighten up the icing so that they balance each other out after mixing. Tip: I emptied the icing into a tupperware for easier mixing. Add about half of the icing to the crumbled cake mix and mix together. You might need to use your hands with this part and don’t forget to remove your rings! Roll your cake into small to medium sized balls. Put them into the freezer for 10 or 15 minutes before coating. This helps them stay together better but don’t let them freeze or they will crack! Dip them into candy coating or melted white chocolate and decorate! As you can see, the inside is purple too 🙂 Why not throw in some lavender nail polish to really get you in the mood… OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender … I wish I could say that I made these for an awesome baby shower, bridal shower or some sort of party but unfortunately I didn’t have one of those coming up. Instead, me and the hubbs ate these by ourselves. Hope you like these as much as I enjoyed sharing them and thanks for stopping by! Update: here is another cake pop post that I did. Cake pop baby shower favors.
